Alumni HZS meet in Zeebrugge
The 24th of March, 70 alumni of the Antwerp Maritime Academy in Antwerp convened in the Port of Zeebrugge. The speaker of the evening was the Governor of West Flandres, Carl Decaluwé.
He gave insights into the incident that happened on the North Sea resulting in the sinking of mv Flinterstar. Very interestingly, the Governor elaborated on what happened in the 4 days after the incident, and the organization and setting up of a crisis team, coordinating all the stakeholders involved; SAR, environmental, medical, communication and press.
For the participants it was compelling to see how a North Sea crisis is managed from a governmental point of view.
After the speech, the alumni were offered a reception on the 5th floor of the Port Authority building, admiring great views over the Port of Zeebrugge. The alumni would like to thank Governor Decaluwé and Commander Coens for hosting this event in his premises.
