First PhD in Nautical Sciences awarded to Capt. Kris De Baere
Capt. Kris De Baere, head of our Education Unit “Exploitation and Ship Technique”, successfully defended his doctoral thesis on Corrosion in balast tanks on board of merchant ships, to become the first Doctor in Nautical Sciences.
Only in 2006, Nautical Sciences became a separate field of study, allowing to obtain a PhD in it.
As PhD’s are awarded by universities, our Academy and the Antwerp University created a special joint faculty for this purpose.
