HZS @ EUVocationalSkills Week

Antwerp Maritime Academy's student Brecht Ketelers (3rd Bach Marine Engineering) was one of the speakers at the opening event of the European Vocational Skills week.

There were many speeches, including one of Marianne Thyssen (European Commisioner, Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility) and Hilde Crevits (Vice Minister-President of the Flemish Government and Flemish Minister of Education).

Brecht Ketelers' speech - 'An adult learner involved in reskilling'- focused on how Vocational Education and Training (VET) is supporting his career development.

Brecht started studying Marine Engineering in 2005-2006. After two unfruitful years he quited his degree studies and started working. In 2014-2015 he started studying again, from scratch. Currently he is 'on track' and in his third and final year.

Brecht is writing a bachelor thesis entitled ‘Air lubrication for a Solar Boat’ (promoter: Stefaan Bueken) and he is a a dedicated member of Antwerp Maritime Academy’s solar team.
