Scientific research at the Maritime Academy

9 steel plates were transferred to the deep-water towing tank at the University of Liège after 287 days of immersion in North Sea water. Each of the plates was treated with a different anti-fouling coating. The objective was to determine the increase in hydrodynamic resistance by marine fouling and this in function of the type of coating. Subsequently, the plates were cleaned in accordance with the procedure specified by the manufacturer and towed again, this time to measure the influence of the damage of the coating by marine fouling on the drag resistance. This experiment is part of Raf Meskens' doctoral research.
