Belgian Mariners Rugby Club
Intro
The Belgian Mariners is the rugby club of the Antwerp Maritime Academy and our team colours are blue and white.
What is rugby?
Rugby is played on a large field with an oval shaped ball with 2 teams consisting each of 15 players. The objective of the game is to score points by pushing the ball behind the try line (=goal line) or by kicking the ball between the 2 goal posts. In case of a foul there will be a typical rugby formation named a “scrum” and if the ball leaves the field a “line-out” is set up. If a player runs with the ball he can be stopped with a “tackle”. In short these are the main principles.
Why rugby?
Rugby is a varied and spectacular game where team spirit prevails over individualism on and of the field. It is a contact sport in which fair-play, respect for each other, the opponent and the referee is predominant. These are one of the many reasons why we play the game of rugby union.
Training
Trainings are held weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17.45 until 20.00 on our own field at the Antwerp Maritime Academy (Noordkasteel Oost 6 – 2030 Antwerpen).
We depend of course on the academic year, so do not hesitate to contact us before you come to a training to make sure that we are playing.
